Douglas Witmer | painting 16
For the past two decades my studio has never been without a supply of paper, torn down to 7.5 x 5.5 inches, ready to go. I have come to think of these like drawings, even though they share the identical media except for the canvas surface of my paintings. “Drawing” is for me a mindset more than a product…both a “recitation of mantras” via techniques and compositional strategies (not unlike a musician practicing scales) as well as an open space of exploration where an unexpected outcome is embraced.
