Bio

Beverly Fisher is an artist and curator who brings a unique perspective, having lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where Amish architecture and fields informed her aesthetic. Her studio practice moves between drawing, sculpture, and installation. She is passionate about space design and placing reductive and atmospheric artwork into home and museum collections.

Her work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Santa Fe Art Institute, the NYC Art on Paper Fair, the Aspen Art Fair, Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado, and the Bachechi Open Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as in private collections.

An installation with paper, water, stone, and salt:

A suspended stone, a salt lick, water held in stone, paper, placed in relation to light and architecture here in the Sonoran desert. The elements speak to the hand, time, and space, pushing and pulling between two and three dimensions. Each object sounds the room it is placed in, a call and response of weight with the architecture that holds it.

The underlying motivation to making art has always been the desire to make work that was quiet, in the sense that it reveals itself slowly over time. Using a formal language that places the viewer in familiar territory, the work does not depict directly but rather traces a vital definitive gesture suggested by nature, triggering a state of reverie and stillness. Making concentrates my attention in a way that is close to meditation: the eye taking in and the hand giving back.
